When I met Erin and Charlie at a coffee shop last year, I knew they were two beautiful souls. They were both down to earth and truly wanted their day documented as it unfolded. Charlie is an extremely talented Detroit documentary photographer, so when he said in passing at his wedding “you are exactly what we were looking for” I truly felt honored and I knew we were a perfect fit. Not only does the photographer need to jive with their clients, but their clients also need to feel secure and happy with their photographer.

And let me tell you, I was sure happy to capture their big day and little moments. Erin got ready at home in Livonia with her friends and family, while Charlie enjoyed a quiet morning to himself. I started off photographing details while Erin had her finishing touches with her hair and makeup, which were absolutely stunning! And her details were just as gorgeous, with her beautiful black Onyx ring and simple gold bands, it was a perfect mix of elegance and minimalism. Her little details came together beautifully on her grandmother’s mirror.

After Erin’s finishing touches were complete, her Mom and sister helped her get dressed before the first look with her Dad. He waited patiently in their backyard and it was definitely a whirl of emotions and excitement as her Dad saw his last little girl on her wedding day.

Following that heartfelt experience, we headed off to Rotary Park so that Erin could see Charlie for the first time! Their wedding party stood nearby and witnessed as these two greeted each other for the first time that day. Before heading off to the ceremony though we stopped and captured the entire bridal party together. Seeing this gang spend the day together was incredible, and that was just a glimpse of it. As the day unfolded, there immense friendships and authentic relationships were evident in everything they said and did.

I’m getting ahead of myself though, back to the ceremony! Just before the said I do, we stopped to take a photograph with their adorable dogs, Irie and Henry, who were such a great addition to their day! Following, Erin and Charlie were married in their backyard underneath this incredible tree. Their ceremony, performed by a close friend, was filled with such love and laughter. I couldn’t help but chuckle behind my camera.

But the laughs and good times didn’t stop there. As for their entrance, they came in with a slam dunk, literally. They're not sure who came up with the idea first, but we can all agree, it was a fantastic idea. The entire wedding party put on their custom Pistons jerseys and if you couldn’t tell from the photographs, everyone was having a ball - pun totally intended.

The remaining of their reception did not disappoint either. Their speeches were some of the most heartfelt and hilarious and they were a riot on the dance floor! I don’t think I’ve documented a couple who danced as much as they did! They partied all night long with their loved ones and I loved capturing every moment of it! Especially their last dance, Bohemian Rhapsody, a crowd favorite and special tradition. Erin even busted out her air guitar!

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” I’ll let you look and decide!
