Detroit Belle Isle Winter Proposal Engagement Session | Kayla + Isaac

I am so glad the day finally arrived for Isaac and Kayla's engagement at Belle Isle! Isaac reached out months ago about documenting his proposal to Kayla after her sister Jenna found me on Instagram. Isaac and Jenna were secretly putting together a plan for Isaac's proposal that would surprise Kayla and I am honored Isaac chose me to document this special milestone. With some stealthy scheming, the perfect plan was in place for a snowy sunset proposal at Sunset Point on Belle Isle.

Belle Isle is a special place for Isaac and Kayla as a couple. They have spent a lot of time together on the isle and their daughter's name, Isabelle, was inspired by their love for this scenic gem along the Detroit River. Isaac picked up flowers from Kayla's favorite flower shop, Boland Florist, which I arranged along with a blanket so the Detroit skyline was featured behind them. The red roses and delicate mix of white daisies, carnations, Peruvian lilies, and greenery looked stunning in the fresh snow. I trailed a rose petal path for them to follow and it's safe to say Kayla was surprised when Isaac led her to the spot because even as she admired the picturesque scene, she still didn't realize it was all for her.

After we just received a hefty snowstorm and knowing the typical gray days January brings, I wasn't sure what type of sunset we would see, if any. Thankfully, Sunset Point lived up to its name and there was a beautiful glowing warm sunset to serve as the backdrop for Isaac's special proposal. Thanks to the help from Jenna, their daughter Isabelle was waiting nearby for her cue to join her parents and bring her mom another rose. Isaac read the poem he wrote for Kayla as he got down on one knee and as you can guess, Kayla said yes! Her beautiful engagement ring features Isabelle's birthstone and it was a perfect fit!

While Isabelle waited in the warm car with Jenna, we captured a few portraits of the newly engaged couple as the sun started to set before heading over to Mumma Maria's House. Isaac also planned a surprise dinner with their families, some of which even drove from out of town just to join them for the special occasion! Mumma Maria's House is known for incredible Italian food served in a cozy atmosphere, which was the perfect way to warm up and celebrate their engagement. After a chilly snowy evening, there is nothing like being surrounded by your closest loved ones, sharing good food, and talking about all the wonderful plans for the future ahead.
