Weddings and couples will always steal my heart in photography. They’re my favorite shoots, but lifestyle portraiture is a close second. I absolutely love capturing the essence of a person and their passions. And Jacquelyn was one of those lifestyle shoots that felt like hanging out, rather than working. I didn’t meet her until the evening of our session and as soon as I did, I felt like we had been friends forever.
Self described as “not interesting,” Jacquelyn is one of the most interesting and fun people you will meet! She’s a true babe, kick-butt photographer, and has a personality that will light up a room. But, back to our awesome shoot! Out of all the wonderful things you can do in Michigan, one of my favorites is enjoying the character of Downtown Detroit. We started at The Z Lot, which has become a breeding ground for photographs due to its skyline view of Detroit and fun vibes. She rocked her hand made “the girl at the rockshow” jean jacket. I love her passion for Blink 182, because if we are being real, they’re my jam. We also bonded over shooting “unconventional” cameras. Photographers, and others, Nikon and Canon are not the end all be all. I absolutely love shooting Fuji, and I will never go back.
After hanging out on top of The Z Lot, Jacquelyn introduced me to one of my new favorite joints to eat downtown, Lovers Only Detroit. We grabbed drinks and ate the BEST burgers ever, grass-fed too! I snapped a photo of Jacquelyn just before she dived into her burger. Wanting to get the best shot, I said “okay, now don’t take a bite yet.” Right after I clicked the shutter, she jumped right in. I can’t blame her though, because those burgers were seriously delicious! We ate, laughed, and talked about the life of photographers. What more can you ask for in an hour or two of “work?”
