This Detroit Riverwalk proposal on Friday night was not only the sweetest proposal but also very spontaneous (well, for me at least). Max and I were connected through another photographer on Instagram the day before and I am so glad that he did! Max had all the details planned and he knew exactly where, when, and how he wanted to do it! To determine the exact spot along Detroit's Riverfront I worked with Sophie's sister, Sarah, who also helped prepare the location with beautiful rose petals. It was quiet and the best part of the location was there was a little playscape for Sarah to hide in during the proposal, oh and not to mention the beautiful water and cityscape in the backdrop.
So, a little backstory first. Max and Sophie have been going to the same school since elementary school, dating since high school and even went to prom together! I love hearing about how couples met and listening to their love story. Their story reminded me of my own, as my husband and I are high school sweethearts as well.
Max was obviously extremely excited to propose to his high school sweetheart and the scenic walk along the water was the perfect atmosphere for him to tell Sophie exactly how he felt. Beforehand, Max said that he wanted the proposal to be casual and down to earth, and while it was laid-back, it was also beautiful! Max got down on one knee and while I didn't hear the words he said, I know Sophie was overjoyed and filled with excitement as Max slid the ring onto her finger. She said it was the easiest "yes" ever!
When the proposal was over, Sarah and I jumped out from behind the landscaping and trees! Sophie was surprised and happy to see her sister who had driven all the way from Lansing just to be there for that special moment! We continued to walk along the Riverwalk and I captured all their love and excitement. I always love capturing proposals because you cannot beat the absolute awe and joy from that special moment and I feel honored to document it.
Following their photographs, Max and Sophie went to grab celebratory drinks and I headed home to edit some sneak peeks to send them that night. I remember the excitement when I got engaged and I couldn't wait to share my announcement with friends and family, including posting a photograph on social media, so I wanted them to have some photographs that night to share with everyone.
